Services / Materials

The Fine Art Trade Guild specifies five levels of framing utilising different qualities of materials and framing techniques.

These levels range from Minimum through to Museum, a brief description of each is given below as it affects the cost and more importantly, the level of protection and conservation for the artwork.

Minimum

As the name suggests, framing to a minimum quality and budget. Only suitable for low value items. We do not frame at this level.

Budget Framing

This level is for the budget conscious but not recommended for any items of value.

Commended Framing

For items of moderate commercial or sentimental value but using "standard" materials.

Conservation

Our preferred level of workmanship. All techniques are reversible and use conservation grade materials to protect the artwork.

Museum

The highest quality framing available but using expensive high grade materials for lifetime protection

Mouldings, Mountboards and Glass

We have a vast choice of materials available.

Currently we have over 300 different mouldings and mountboards in stock with access to thousands more if something different is required.

We can supply framed mirrors, bevelled and non-bevelled edged, to any size and shape.

We can source original and limited edition artwork, either mounted or framed.  Just give us the details and we can do the research.

We stock a large variety of glass from normal 2mm clear up to UV protective for special items.  Our complete range of UV Protective Glass includes Truvue Conservation Clear, Truvue Diffused reflection, Schott Mirorgard Waterwhite Plus, Artshield Acrylic UV for oversized items requiring an alternative to glass and many other types on request.  For full details of specification and price please contact us. Examples are available for viewing in the workshop.  Glass is the only way to protect a picture from UV damage - normal 2mm clear and non-reflective glass offer only 42% protection whereas the Conservation glasses can achieve above 90%.   It is worth investing in good quality glass when a picture is sentimentally or financially valuable.

Fabric Art, embroideries and textiles

We handle all types of textiles including cross-stitch embroideries, needlepoint, tapestries, silks, machine stitched embroideries, garments of all sorts including football/rugby shirts, christening gowns etc.  See examples of work in the Portfolio section.

Each item is assessed individually to ensure that it is handled and framed correctly.

We can dry mount textiles where appropriate, using the correct standard of materials. This however is not recommended for valuable items.

We also offer a full lacing service including padding, which squares, stretches, supports and protects the textiles for future generations.

Testimonials

"Dear Lyn

I was always dubious above having things framed in the past but now that I have seen the results of your efforts, I am delighted - more importantly, my work is now selling.  Being an artist it is always difficult to accept that good framing costs money but we all have to learn that it is an investment, and once done properly, enables us to reach a more discerning market who are willing to pay a sensible price for the whole presentation.  Thank you so much for your help and I will return again and again.

Best wishes, Linda Chilton

"I have had many of my Japanese Embroideries framed by Lyn over a period of 18 years, and I have, without exception, always been delighted with the results.

I have also recommended Lyn to many of my friends who have been equally pleased with her work.

Lyn is an inspired picture framer, whose many accolades are well deserved."

"Dear Lyn

As usual, I am thrilled with the results of your framing.  You always make everything look so valuable once it is framed.  I have no hesitation in recommending your services as my pictures are always commented upon.  Thank you.

Best Wishes

Betty
